Bites on the Beach: A Western New York Escape at the Cheesesteak Factory

The next stop on the Beach Bites tour brings us to the Cheesesteak Factory at Surfside Beach, where we had the pleasure of meeting co-owner Dustin Cornish and his wife Andy, who also runs the restaurant with him.

A quote that stuck with me from him was, “It’s so much fun! My wife thinks I’m completely crazy. I was a quality engineer, that’s what I did before that.

Now it’s all about designing delicious cheesesteaks among other menu items for Cornish.

Cornish have been serving great food at Le Grand Grand for almost 8 years now,
after taking over the restaurant which has existed for 18 years.

Dustin went on to say, “We were looking for a restaurant that had been in business for a little while. We found this place and fell in love with it. This is our kind of place, this is our kind of food.

“We made amazing cheesesteaks. We’re starting to win award after award on our cheesesteaks. Then we realized we could do so much more than cheesesteaks.

With Dustin’s original roots in upstate New York, a regional flair was applied to the menu and clearly struck a chord with their regulars.

“And now we find that there are so many western New Yorkers missing the same foods, we started providing them. And we’re doing a good job with that. We just brought hot- dogs from Zweigle, which is a Rochester New York thing. We do Friday fish fries here.

Several locals shared their love for frying fish on social media, in a cheesesteak joint of all places!
From fish to freshly cut meats, you can’t argue with the quality, and it keeps people coming back.

Dustin concluded with, “We have a lot of regulars coming. We have a bunch of couples who come once a week. In fact, last Christmas at least seven different customers brought me and our staff Christmas cards and small gifts. »

“We have a gentleman. He’s a retired veterinarian. He comes every Friday. We have a special place for him. Richard is his name. He enters through the door. All the staff, as soon as he walks in, “Richard is here!” We have quite a few. »

The Cheesesteak Factory is located at 310 US-17 Business in Surfside Beach.
